The Indian Flag
The flag is a horizontal tricolor in equal proportions of deep orange at the top, white in the middle, and dark green at the bottom. In the center of the white band there is a wheel in navy blue to indicate the Dharmacakra (Wheel of Dharma). Dharmacakra is a symbol that represents the “dharma” or the Buddha’s teaching of the path to enlightenment. Just as a wheel rolls naturally, dharma moves a person forward spirituality. The orange color of the flag stands for courage, sacrifice, and spirit of renunciation, the white, for purity and truth, and the green for faith and fertility.
The national flag design was adopted by the India’s constitution assembly in 1947.
